# Current limitations

As with any technology, Spacer comes with certain limitations. These limitations may or may not be overcome in future versions.

  • The amount of channels in the output file must be between 3 and 65535. Free Lossless Audio Codec (FLAC) output are limited to 8 channels. Dolby E-AC-3, Dolby AC-3 and Dolby TrueHD output are limited to 6 channels. Advanced Audio Coding (AAC) output is limited to 48 channels.
  • Only 2.0, 3.0, 3.1, 4.0, 4.1, 5.0, 5.1, 6.0, 6.1, 7.0, 7.1, 8.0, 8.1, 9.0, 9.1, 11.0, 11.1, 22.2, Dolby Atmos 5.1.2, Dolby Atmos 5.1.4, Dolby Atmos 7.1.2, Dolby Atmos 7.1.4 and Dolby Atmos 11.1.4 surround layouts are officially supported and preconfigured. Using other layouts is still possible but will have to be configured manually.
  • There is currently no way to take more than 1 audio file as input and output more than 1 audio file.
  • Dolby TrueHD output is experimental and may have issues.
  • There is no forward compatibility between newer Scene files and older versions of Spacer, however there is backward compatibility. Check the Scene specification support listing for more details.
